Question 7.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

When looking back at my preliminary task I can see that I have improved on a lot of different things to help make this new project even better.

This is the first idea we thought of doing for our thriller opening. This was Hayley’s idea which was mostly used in our thriller opening. Here idea was to have a young girl walking down a road and being murdered by a masked man.

I think the best thing which I noticed was my acting I didn’t seem to notice that the camera was on me so it seemed to come more natural to me this time round. I also notice that my camera skills improved a lot this is because I got more of a change to film in this one; I was the director for the whole of the night scene where the girl gets killed. This helped me because I came to understand what a d irector really goes through when making a movie and I wonder would I have the patience to make a movie.

Here is some of the images of our Preliminary task; the reason why I can tell I have improved is because we can use more of a variety of different camera shots and movements. When looking at the transitions we used for each we can tell that we are looking more at how a professional would usually see it, this helped me think of important ideas when it came to the making and editing of our thriller opening.

During the planning we thought of different features which would make it look different, but when it came to the day of filming we changed certain things to fit the scenery which we thought made the film seem better. When looking at the finish product I wonder if there was something else we could have added to make it last a little longer, but we know this if we get the opportunity to make another opening.

When it came to the day of filming we had to make sure that certain things didn’t make the filming more difficult. Here are some of the things we needed to make sure:
-          The weather – On the day of filming the weather had a big impact on how the filming turned out, it was very windy which made the sound difficult to hear. So when it came to editing we had to do a voice over because the wind made it so bad that we couldn’t hear what people were saying. This made it difficult because it we had to make sure that the lip sink was perfect which in one of the scenes you can see that it wasn’t.
-          We had to make sure that they battery life was full because we needed a lot of camera shots to take enough footage to have enough to edit with. Luckily we did have enough footage to edit with and I think in total we had about 20mins of useable footage.
-          We had to make sure that we had things organised because on the day of filming we had to make sure that we got there and got filming straight away, when it came to planning the filming day we made sure that everybody had their own jobs to make sure that they completed.

The shots which I think worked most of all was the ‘Zoom’, which showed the killer coming into the view of camera. I thought this was effective because it showed that our skills had changed from the beginning of our preliminary to the ending of our ‘Thriller opening.’ Another shot which I think was effective was the ‘Pan’ this is because it provided us with the suspense as the killer came out of the building and then disappearing into the darkness, this makes the audience wonder if he is really there.

I think that this shot is effective because it really shows what the victim is doing and that they are clueless to the killer walking behind them. For this shot we did a zoom, so we could see what the victim was feeling and seeing the killer coming from the side make the audiences tension rise.
From the original credits and preliminary we can see that they look more professional, less informal. The reason why I like the new credits is because it fits with the storyline of the story and I think that it keeps the audience hooked.
