Media Studies: Film Anaylsis.

Media Studies: Film Analysis:

This is an image taken from the film ‘Red Riding Hood’ the reason why I chose this is because it fit with the genre ‘Thriller’ and because there are a lot of things I can analysis with this image.

The first thing I am going to talk about is the Mise-en-scene, when I look at this image I can see the touch which shows that wherever this person is it is a dark place, and that there is no other light source. The way the touch is so bright it’s like it is trying to move your eyes away from what is really happening, this would be an example of a ‘Cut Away.’ A cut away shot is something which draws his eyes away from something which might also be happening in the scene, it makes people tension rise. But sometimes the shot is totally unnecessary but they add it in for effect.

When we look at the red of the fire this could sometimes represent blood and death, but it could also represent passion, forbidden love and a longing for someone. The way I see this image is death but passion building up inside of him, like he is in love but it is forbidden. This links it back to the red of the flames, painful and someone suffering. When you look at his clothes you can see that he is all in black, this could represent tough and anger and also someone who will be able to stand up for himself and who will not take any mess from no one. Also when we look him he looks loyal, like he would run to anyone’s side if they asked and this would make people feel safer. This makes the tension rise, because he has so many sides to him and that he could change at any moment into someone else, someone that you would never recognise.

In this image I can Denote that something might be about to happen, and I can Connote that wherever he is he is in a dark place.
