Media Studies: Task 4:

Media Studies: Task 4:

This is from the film ‘Titanic’ an Oscar winning production directed by James Cameron, and release in 1997.

The reason why I pick this film to analysis is because it has so many good things about it, and it is a well known film which has been watched by near enough everyone in the world.

When we look at this image we see Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) looking deep into each others eyes and holding each other in a warming embrace. When we look at this photo we can see that these two people care a lot about each other, but because he is still so distant from her face this suggests that they can not be together. This image is a two shot, which means that it is showing two people in the image. It also looks a bit like an over the shoulder shot, the reason why I think this is because you are more looking over her should (like its her perspective) but you are seeing both of their reactions. This makes this scene seem more really and it makes tensions rise because you just want to know what happens next.

The scene of this image appears to be someone deep in the ship, somewhere that doesn’t really acquire rich people you can tell this because of the light in the background. It isn’t covered up and there is only one, if it was somewhere which was more popular then it would be covered with maybe a big chandelier, and their would be colours on the wall and there would be a lot of silver were on the tables, this scene does not have any which makes me suspect that this place is where the lower class would go.

Because of what they are both where suggests that they do not belong in this world and that they should be somewhere different from where they are now. I know this because of the dress Rose is wearing; it is to glittery for someone who doesn’t have a lot of money. When we look at Jacks clothes we can see that he is missing a bow tie which suggests that he doesn’t belong in the same world as Rose, it also suggests that sometimes the poorer people have more fun, I mean look at this image the girl he loves is dancing with him when she could be with all her higher class friends.

The Mise-en-scene of this image I think is the light, it makes peoples eyes draw to it. It is a cut away shot. This is when something is added to take your eyes away from what is really happening. Also when it comes to the light, because it is lit suggests that they are in somewhere which doesn’t have much light, bringing me back to my conclusion of them being somewhere deep in the ship, probably near the bottom too.
